Men's Crew Vice Captain ('17 - '18)

" It is perhaps common knowledge that rowing is one of the most painful sports out there. A rower is expected to withstand pain that others can't. And thus a rower must basically be obstinate, hard-headed, relentless and tenacious; also without, let's say, much sense. I mean if you intentionally subject yourself to such levels of pain then you can't really have much sense. So what is my job as cox? That's right to deal with those obstinate, hard-headed, relentless, tenacious, senseless individuals and make sure they don't end up crashing the boat. I also got to make sure they give 110% in their training sessions and do the sessions as instructed. It sounds like a lot of work and it is honestly. But I can't really say I don't thoroughly enjoy pushing guys twice my size around. Who wouldn't. On a serious note, however; being the cox is a huge responsibility and it is most apparent in regattas. I have to make sure the strategy set by the stroke is in motion, I have to know the right words to use to fire them up, I have to be their eyes and let them know the progress they're making, I have to formulate new strategies under the changing circumstances; all within the 7 minutes of the race. Although it is stressful beyond comprehension, it has

become a fixation. I have developed an affinity with this atmosphere of undying fervor, unparalleled tension, and grotesque competition. It really is a great or perhaps the greatest of honors to be part of such a nerve-working yet glamorous experience. And the moments in which we cross the line as victors and getting thrown in the water by my festive teammates will be of my most treasured memories and my crew will forever be etched in my heart."
