" “enty law nafakho fiki hatteeri…” was a thing that everyone told me when I wanted to join a sport at university, especially Rugby or Soccer. I was an athlete in school, but I got too preoccupied after joining uni; I heard from friends about rowing and was astonished to learn that there was a rowing team at AUC. I signed up, passed the tryouts and joined the team. As time passed, I started developing an affinity towards the sport; a connection I never had with any other sport. And in time rowing became more than just a sport. I know I might sound cliché and all, but it became a lifestyle, and an obsession. Waking up at 4:30 for practice seems like an impossible task for me, but the feelings I exhibit when I row change having to wake up to wanting to wake up. When you’re in the water you just forget everything and you’re overwhelmed by the experience; an experience that feels almost divine. Frankly, this team has made me enjoy coming out of my comfort zone. I never thought I’d enjoy rowing in the Nile or some “sarf zera3y” in Alexandria, constantly carrying boats and oars from place to place, or giving more when I’m at my limit; but I here I am enjoying every single bit of it and ready for the many more experiences to come!"
